Macro Monday | Valleyview Alberta Photographer

Week 5 of my macro P52!  This week’s theme is “Wood.”  I’ve taken other macro shots of wood before, but I was trying to find a way to inject a little bit of colour into this week’s shot.  So, I decided to shoot this weathered fencepost.  There’s a little bit of colour…  subtle, but it’s there:)

My World, Your World | Valleyview Alberta Photographer

I’m participating in a new photography project.  Something that lets you see artistic interpretation from two different photographers…  on two opposite ends of the continent.  This project involves many talented woman photographers and I’m teaming up with the fabulous Susan Nawyn of Suna Photography.  Susan is based out of south Florida, so her world is definitely a bit different compared to northern Canada:)

Susan and I will be photographing a subject based on a monthly theme.  Then, we will share our images in a diptych for you to see.  Our interpretations might be vastly different or maybe even the same.  It’s going to be so much fun to see where our creativity takes us in the next year!  I’m also looking forward to getting to know Susan too!

This month’s theme is Black and White.  I love black and white photography.  Absolutely love it.  When I was thinking of things to shoot, I kept thinking about the winter that surrounds me.  Although it has been warm and things are starting to melt, my outside world is covered in a blanket of white.  Other colours are are almost non-existant.  But, if you look hard enough, you will see signs of growth…  or growth that was.  My photograph this week is of flowers….  dried and lacking their beautiful red colour from the summer.  In black and white, you can look beyond non-existant blooms and see something beautiful.

To see our finished diptych, showcasing my photograph and Susan’s photograph together, visit 4 the Love of Focus!

To see more photos featuring this month’s theme, visit Leigh Ann Hines | Music and Portrait Photographer based out of North Carolina.

Great job with your photo. I love this. Good composition and the conversion is great!

I love this. Its so peaceful. its perfect as a square crop too. I can imagine it in a whole series printed large with white mats and black museum frames, lining a hallway. very very nice.

Fifty-Two on Friday | Valleyview Alberta Photographer

I’m so excited to tell you about my new project for this year!  18 other photographers and I are doing our project together to not only share with all of our blog readers, but to keep the project on track.  We have a list of 52 “ideas or themes”  that we will shoot each week of the year.  And since we’re getting started a week late, the project will roll over into the first week of 2012.  I will take a picture of our theme for the week — the way I interpret it and I will post it on my site.  Then under my post, I will link to another photographer from the project so you can check out her interpretation of the theme.  After you see hers, you will notice a different link under her picture that will then take you to the next photographer’s website.  If you continue to click on the link under each picture, in the end you should see 18 other pictures and eventually make it back to my site.  When I say there is some AMAZING talent in this group, I am not lying, you will definitely want to check out everyone’s pictures.

This week’s theme was black and white.  I wanted to find something that would make an interesting black and white photograph.  One of the first places that came to mind was a local historic site.  This is the St. John the Evangelist Church and it was built in 1941, for what used to be a bustling settlement.  However, the “settlement” is no longer growing like it once was.  This church was deconsecrated in 1997, but this piece of history is maintained by a location association.  I love the way the church looks.  It was restored not that long ago, but it still has an aged-appearance.

I didn’t grow up in this area, but when I started to search out some information about it and this church, I was so surprised by the things I learnt.  There is so much history here.  History that ranges back to aboriginal people, settlements, and forest rangers.  The community is not that old, but the story is colourful.  I wasn’t completely sure about my subject choice this week, but after reading through the archives, I’m glad I stuck with it:)

Now, let’s travel to Arizona to visit the talented Jobrina Hofleit and see her interpretation of this week’s theme.

Thankful Thursday | Valleyview Alberta Photographer

Onto Week 19 of my 365 days of gratitude project!  Here are the things that I am thankful for this week:

Day 127 – I am thankful for sweet treats…  You can go wrong with some peanut butter and chocolate “sprinkles.”

Day 128 – I am thankful for fresh salad in the middle of winter.  I can’t wait to get started growing it!

Day 129 – I am thankful for the next great adventure.

Day 130 – I am thankful for motion in nature… no matter how significant.

Day 131 – I am thankful for lens tissue…  and the rest of my lens cleaning kit.  I love a clean lens:)

Day 132 – I am thankful for some great bed-time reading.

Day 133 – I am thankful for discovering something green under all the snow outside.  The snow has melted in spots and it almost looks a little bit like spring.

The A Family | Grande Prairie Alberta Newborn Photographer

I recently had the opportunity to spend the day with the A Family and their newest addition, Baby P.  This is one beautiful family!  I had so much fun capturing them!  All three boys were so great in front of the camera.  And, because they were so great in front of the camera, I had a hard time narrowing down my favourites from the session!  So, prepare yourself for a really, really huge photo share:)
